Nintendo to discontinue eShop and online services in China

Nintendo Switch is halting its eShop operations and other online services in China in the upcoming year.

In 2019, Tencent partnered with Nintendo to start selling Switch consoles in China.

According to the official announcement on Nintendo’s website on Tuesday, the company will be ceasing its operations starting between March 31st and May 15, 2026.

From March 31st, 2026, the digital shop will stop selling games including the free trials. Going further on 15th May 2026, Nintendo will halt all the download and code redeeming services. This means no DLC will be available for access.

Additionally, it will also put an end to all other network-related operations on 15th May. The company has not shared the reason for the abrupt closing in China.

The gamers who purchased the official Chinese version of the console will get affected by this change.
